New Science-backed Education Approach Designed to Modernise Nursery Education Rolled Out in UAE

A new science backed education approach designed to transform early years learning and elevate child development standards has been officially rolled out in the United Arab Emirates. The programme, known as The Sustainable Education Approach®, launched today across Blossom Nursery and Preschool’s 32 locations. It marks the first time the approach has been implemented in the UAE and aligns with global, national and long term educational objectives.

Aligned with Global and National Visions for the Future

The Sustainable Education Approach® is aligned with the Tashkent Declaration and Commitments to Action, a global pledge adopted by 193 governments aiming to uplift and reform early childhood education worldwide.

Blossom Nursery and Preschool has further localised the approach to support the UAE’s strategic directions, including We the UAE 2031 and UAE Centennial 2071, ensuring that its implementation strengthens national education priorities and long term developmental goals.

Science-Led Development Backed by Global Expertise

Developed by Babilou Family, one of the world’s largest early education providers and the parent company of Blossom Nursery and Preschool, the approach is rooted in independent analysis of the latest scientific research. This includes studies in neuroscience, epigenetics, cognitive science and social science, as well as legacy methodologies such as Montessori.

The research process incorporated insights from educators and families across ten countries and was conducted by a scientific committee composed of leading professors and experts in neuroscience, educational science, psychology, emotional development and nature based learning.

Lama Bechara-Jakins, CEO Middle East at Babilou Family, said,

“The best early years education combines an outstanding curriculum, which is a plan for what is taught, with an outstanding education approach, which is a plan for how it is taught. Education approaches are ultimately what set nurseries and preschools apart, but the challenge has been finding one that unites the most powerful scientific insights with the most powerful elements of legacy approaches. The Sustainable Education Approach® has finally solved this and, in doing so, set the new standard for early years education approaches worldwide.”

Free Access for Educators and Families Across the UAE

To support the broader elevation of early years education in the Emirates, the approach has been released today in the form of three free digital books. These resources are available to all educators and families in the UAE and focus on six core pillars that are scientifically proven to shape long term child development in nurseries and preschools.

Six Scientifically Proven Pillars of the Approach

Emotional and Physical Security
Young children can only thrive academically and emotionally when they feel safe. Studies have shown that chronic stress weakens brain architecture, while psychologist Marie Ainsworth’s work highlights the importance of secure early attachments in supporting emotional regulation, resilience and exploration.

Natural Curiosity
Curiosity plays a crucial role in rapid learning and cognitive development. Research demonstrates that curious children behave like young scientists, exploring through trial and error and developing strong executive functioning skills that aid decision making.

Nature Based Learning
Exposure to nature stimulates sensory engagement, enhances curiosity and promotes calmness. Studies in Spain have shown that children with access to green environments develop stronger neural connections, while UK research links proximity to nature with improved school performance.

Inclusion
Multicultural and multilingual environments give children measurable developmental advantages. Research indicates that such environments strengthen adaptability, social skills and emotional intelligence. Studies also show that children demonstrate early signs of empathy from around the age of two.

Child Rhythms
Every child’s developmental pace is unique. Research in developmental psychology confirms that variations in motor and language milestones are normal and do not predict long term differences in academic achievement or intelligence. The approach encourages educators to support children’s natural rhythms.

Partnering with Parents
When parents and educators align, children experience better learning outcomes and emotional well being. Studies show that collaborative relationships between families and educators lead to improved adjustment and stronger continuity between home and school environments.

Supporting a Major Shift in Early Years Education Across the Emirates

The rollout of The Sustainable Education Approach® marks a significant advancement for early childhood development in the UAE. With its integration of scientific research, legacy methodologies and local insights, the programme aims to elevate standards nationally while contributing to global progress within early childhood education.
