When I set out to lead the founding of the GEMS School of Research and Innovation (SRI), I brought with me over three decades of experience from leading exceptional schools in the UK, South Korea, the USA, and the UAE.
Yet, nothing in my career prepared me fully for the sheer exhilaration of building something utterly new in every way: a school where every environment, every resource, and every educator is dedicated to nurturing future-facing genius.
Our vision was clear from day one. SRI is not merely an addition to the GEMS family, it is a bold milestone that embodies GEMS’ 65+-year legacy of innovation. Here, we are creating a purpose-built institution that redefines what world-class education can and must be.
Why the World Needs SRI
Dubai’s Vision 2040 and Social Agenda 33 challenge educational institutions to prepare students for a world that is evolving exponentially. The old models of schooling no longer suffice. Today, students need real-world problem-solving, emotional agility and resilience, and the tools to invent entirely new ways of living and working.
SRI answers that call. We launched as a global hub for educational research, powered by hand-selected specialist teachers, state-of-the-art AI, and an extended British curriculum infused with future-ready disciplines: AI, robotics, esports, sustainability, and game design.

The SRI campus is a laboratory for learning. Spanning nearly 48,000 m² in Dubai Sports City, our 47.6 thousand square metre facility cost over USD 100 million to deliver, underscoring our commitment to excellence. Within these walls, students encounter:
- An Olympic‑sized swimming pool and 400m running track, ideal for nurturing athletic prowess and healthy habits.
- A professional-grade recording studio, e‑sports hub, disruption lab, virtual/AR‑VR learning suites, robotics and science laboratories, and a 600‑seat auditorium for performance and innovation.
- A FIFA-standard pitch, immersive arts spaces, and STEM and design hubs that merge the lines between classroom and real-world engagement

Education is as much about people as it is about infrastructure. At SRI, our faculty comprises leaders and teachers selected for their talent, creativity, and capacity to ignite student potential. A key part of the finest education in the world is a personalised journey which caters for every child. I do not believe in a one size fits all approach to any aspect of education. Pastroal care needs to understand very child and form strong relationships with families. If our children are to be successful there must be a partnership between the school and home. The students’ academic journey will be personalised, and this is where AI can power this. Technology and state of the art facilities will enhance this journey and make the school a place where students are genuinely excited to be at every day.
Setting New Global Standards
Our launch drew global headline attention, coveted endorsements, and praise from leading educational figures such as Dame Amanda Spielman (former OFSTED Chief Inspector) and Julie Young (Arizona State University) among many, many others. They recognised SRI as a model for redefining school design and pedagogical innovation.
But for me, the most meaningful moment came when I walked through our new Dubai Sports City campus with educators and heard them say: “This feels different. This feels like the future.” That, to me, encapsulates SRI’s promise.
Looking Ahead: From Promise to Reality
When we open for the new academic year, SRI will not just offer impeccable facilities or an avant-garde curriculum. It will offer a reshaped educational promise: that schools can be places where genius, curiosity, and wellbeing flourish together; where innovation is not pursued for its own sake, but to enrich lives and communities.
I am humbled and exhilarated by the journey ahead. As Founding Principal and CEO, my commitment is simple: to deliver on the global promise SRI has captured in headlines and heart, through heartfelt, everyday impact – for our students, families, and wider society.
At SRI, we aren’t just building a school. We are reimagining education for a world that demands brilliance, empathy, and ingenuity in equal measure.
