This balance of strong academics, pastoral care and meaningful enrichment has become a defining feature of the South View experience.

A Conversation with Principal Naomi Williams

In this interview, Principal Naomi Williams discusses the school’s unique philosophy, its commitment to wellbeing and innovation, and the vision that guides its next chapter.

Education UAE: Hi Naomi, thank you so much for joining us today. Southview School has built a strong reputation within the wider educational landscape. How would you describe the school’s philosophy and what makes its ethos unique?

Principal Naomi Williams: Our philosophy centres on developing confident, compassionate learners who strive for excellence while showing kindness and respect and what makes us unique is how genuinely our values are lived out daily. That is every interaction that we have reflects the care, the inclusivity and the integrity that we have at Southview.

South View school has a unique philosophy, its commitment to wellbeing and innovation,

Education UAE: The motto Be kind, be great, be view is central to SVS identity. What does that phrase mean to you personally, and how does it come alive in school life?

Principal Naomi Williams: So for me, it means that every child is encouraged to reach their full potential while staying true to themselves. And you see it how all of our pupils support one another, and how staff model empathy and how achievement never comes at the expense of kindness

Education UAE: As part of the Interstar Education Group, how do you see the group’s shared vision influencing Southview School’s direction and growth?

Principal Naomi Williams: So I see that Interstar’s vision reinforces our commitment to high quality education, to inclusivity and to innovation. We are part of a really forward thinking group, and it gives us shared expertise, whilst allowing Southview to retain its strong community spirit.

Education UAE: What are the key strengths that have shaped SVS success so far, academically, culturally and in community engagement?

Principal Naomi Williams: 100 percent it is our dedicated teachers. We have got really strong pastoral care and the community engagement from our parents is exceptional. We really value academic rigour here, but our real strength is the relationships that we build on a daily basis, and they are built on mutual respect and a real shared purpose and a shared goal.

South View School Teachers are 100% dedicated

Education UAE: As principal, what is your personal vision for the next chapter of SVS, and what would you like most families to remember about their school experience here?

Principal Naomi Williams: So it is really important for me as the principal, that I continue to build a school based on our values of kindness, respect and integrity, and that these values really drive the ambition that we have here for every student, every child, every student should feel valued, challenged and really proud of where they come from and where they study, our constant strive for excellence here for all of our pupils is manifested in this continuous cycle that we have of improvement and evaluation of ourselves.

Education UAE: What do you see as the school’s biggest milestones or priorities for the coming years?

Principal Naomi Williams: That is interesting. So for me, it is definitely about us understanding and deepening experience within coaching, within our school framework for students and teachers and leadership alike. We want to expand the enrichment that we provide here, and we want to strengthen our pathways as we go through the school, our educational pathways to ensure that every single learner that we have here achieves their full potential and is taking the right steps towards their next academic journey.

Education UAE: How does SVS balance strong academic outcomes with wellbeing, creativity and holistic development?

Principal Naomi Williams: So very much, I see wellbeing and academic potential interconnected. They are woven together. So through things like creative arts, through sport enrichment, pupils will build huge amounts of confidence and resilience, and these are key ingredients for lasting academic success

Education UAE: Inclusion is a core value here at SVS. How does the school ensure that every learner, regardless of ability or background, feels valued and supported?

Principal Naomi Williams: So we focus very much on knowing each of our children and each of our students very deeply. We have got dedicated departments, inclusion departments within the primary and the secondary school. We have individualised support, we have adaptive teaching strategies and methodologies, and we have a real culture of empathy, where every pupil can be seen, every pupil is respected, and every single pupil is capable of success.

South View School Focuses on knowing the children.

Education UAE: Can you share how your teachers integrate innovation and technology into classroom learning while maintaining the human connection that defines SVS?

Principal Naomi Williams: That is a big question really. So technology for us enhances, not replaces the connection. Our teachers do use digital tools to personalise learning, but they do keep relationships and dialogue at the centre of their teaching. We are a mobile phone free school. We do not allow our students to have mobile phones, so we really think very deeply about the use of technology here

Education UAE: Southview School has also earned praise for its pastoral care and sense of belonging. What practices ensure that each student feels known, safe and encouraged?

Principal Naomi Williams: So our pastoral care is genuinely outstanding. We have placed a lot of emphasis on this over the years. It is well established, and as I said before, it really drives our academic success. Every single child and every student has a trusted adult who knows them really well. Our heads of year are phenomenal in that perspective, our pastoral system, our assemblies and all of our wellbeing initiatives, they all reinforce kindness, respect and integrity. Again, these are our values that we really strive to make sure that every student knows

Education UAE: How does the school encourage leadership and voice among students?

Principal Naomi Williams: This is mostly done through student councils, through peer mentoring and different types of student leadership. Pupils are taught that leadership is about being able to listen, being able to collaborate and be able to act with integrity

Education UAE: Beyond the classroom, what kinds of enrichment activities and partnerships strengthen SVS sense of community and purpose?

Principal Naomi Williams: We have a lot of clubs, partnerships. We have outreach work that connects students to the wider world. We have our MUN community litter picks, community music concerts, for example, as well as international trips for sport as well as global citizenship opportunities.

Education UAE: The school’s facilities, from creative arts spaces to sports grounds, are designed to support balanced development. How do these physical environments reflect your educational philosophy?

Principal Naomi Williams: So our learning spaces really promote balance. There is a lot of ability for there to be creativity in art studios, collaboration in classrooms. Wellbeing in our cosy wellbeing hub or in the open spaces that we have around the campus. The environment really mirrors our belief about the whole child in education

South View School's learning spaces promote balance.

Education UAE: Sustainability and service are increasingly vital in education. How is SVS cultivating environmental awareness and social responsibility among its students?

Principal Naomi Williams: We have a lot of eco initiatives. We have a lot of community service curriculum links. Our students learn that respect extends to people around them, within the community as well as the whole planet, and it is woven into the daily choices that they make here with SVS.

Education UAE: Finally, what message would you like to share with parents and Education UAE readers considering Southview School for their children?

Principal Naomi Williams: So at Southview, I guarantee that your child will be known and supported and inspired to thrive. We believe that success is really built on our core values that I keep on talking about, kindness, respect and integrity. That is what really defines our community here. Our aim is to be the school of choice in this local area, a truly excellent foundation to learning in the primary school, which will lead to what, in my opinion, will be one of the best sixth forms in Dubai.

The conversation with Principal Naomi Williams highlights a powerful vision for education in the UAE, one anchored in innovation, wellbeing, and global-minded learning. As schools adapt to a fast-changing world, her leadership demonstrates how purposeful environments and community-driven values can shape confident, compassionate, and future-ready learners.
