ADNOC Yas in Schools successfully concluded the first ever Formula Ethara GP Challenge, celebrating the creativity and innovation of young students from across the UAE during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend.
Following a strong response to the competition, the top 20 aspiring designers and engineers were invited to the Yas in Schools Experience Centre to take part in the live finals. The students earned their place after demonstrating strong technical understanding and enthusiasm for engineering and design through the earlier stages of the challenge.
Hands-on Motorsport Experience
During the live finals, students built, tested and raced their own Formula Ethara cars, applying design thinking, engineering principles and problem solving skills in a real motorsport environment. The event offered participants a rare opportunity to experience the pressures and excitement of competitive racing while working to tight timelines, mirroring professional motorsport conditions.
After an action packed day at the Yas in Schools Experience Centre, the top three performers progressed to the final stage of the competition.

Podium Recognition at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
The finalists were honoured on the official Formula 1 podium at Yas Marina Circuit, where they were recognised by senior officials from ADNOC and Ethara. Standing on the same podium as Formula 1 drivers, the students marked a memorable milestone in their educational journey.
The winner of the Formula Ethara GP Challenge was Borja Sanz, with Adam Sears finishing in second place and Dhanvasri Vallinavagam securing third. In addition to winning the competition, Borja also received tickets to attend Sunday’s season finale at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Inspiring Future Engineers and Designers
The Formula Ethara GP Challenge reinforces ADNOC Yas in Schools’ commitment to inspiring the next generation of engineers, designers and innovators in the UAE. By connecting education with the world of motorsport, the programme continues to provide meaningful, hands on learning experiences that encourage young people to pursue careers in STEM related fields.
