Al Ain British Academy has appointed Ciaran Mainstone as its new Principal, bringing an experienced international school leader to one of Abu Dhabi’s leading British curriculum schools.

His appointment comes as schools across the UAE continue to place strong emphasis on experienced leadership that supports academic excellence, student wellbeing and meaningful partnerships with families. For parents, educators and students, leadership appointments can play an important role in shaping a school’s culture, vision and long-term success.

A New Chapter for the Academy

Announcing the appointment, Al Ain British Academy welcomed Mr Mainstone to its community and highlighted his extensive international experience. The school said,

“Please join us in welcoming Mr Mainstone to the Al Ain British Academy family as our new Principal. With a wealth of international leadership experience and a passion for creating exceptional learning environments, Mr Mainstone joins AABA ready to lead our community into an exciting new chapter.”

Mr Mainstone joins Al Ain British Academy from The British School of Bahrain, having previously held leadership positions in Bahrain, Singapore and the United Kingdom. Alongside his school leadership experience, he also serves as a Council of International Schools (CIS) International Evaluator, working with schools around the world to promote educational excellence.

A Vision Centred on Students and Community

Speaking about his appointment, Mr Mainstone said he was honoured to become part of a school community recognised for its warmth, ambition and strong sense of belonging. He explained that he believes the best schools are those where every child feels known, every family feels welcome and every member of staff understands the difference they make in students’ lives.

He added that his educational philosophy is centred on creating an environment where academic achievement is complemented by opportunities in sport, the arts, leadership, sustainability and service, enabling every student to flourish both inside and outside the classroom.

Mr Mainstone also said he is looking forward to meeting students, families and staff, listening, learning and building strong relationships as they continue the Academy’s journey together. He said,

“My aim is simple: to ensure Al Ain British Academy remains a place where every child is happy, ambitious, proud to belong, and inspired to succeed.”

Why Strong School Leadership Matters

A principal has a significant influence on every aspect of school life, from teaching quality and curriculum development to student wellbeing and staff development. Additionally, experienced leaders help build positive school cultures where students feel supported to achieve academically while developing confidence, resilience and a strong sense of belonging.

For parents considering school options, leadership appointments often provide valuable insight into a school’s future direction and priorities.

Looking Ahead

As Al Ain British Academy prepares for the new academic year, Mr Mainstone’s appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter for the school community.

With experience across multiple international education systems and a commitment to educational excellence, he will lead the Academy as it continues to support students in achieving success both inside and beyond the classroom.
