American University of Sharjah (AUS) has reached its highest-ever position in the QS World University Rankings 2027. This achievement offers parents, students and educators in the UAE a compelling choice for higher education with proven outcomes in employability and academic quality.

The university now ranks 258 globally, an improvement of 14 places from the previous year. This places AUS among the top 17 percent of universities worldwide and maintains its position among the top three institutions in the UAE.

Strong Gains in Employability and Research

AUS has shown significant progress in areas that directly benefit students. It rose 112 places globally in employment outcomes and ranks third in the UAE for this indicator.

Ninety-five percent of Spring and Summer 2024 graduates secured employment within 12 months of graduation. This highlights the strong demand for AUS alumni in the job market.

Furthermore, AUS ranks first in the UAE for employer reputation. Employers particularly value graduates from its programmes in engineering, design, business and sciences.

Research Impact and Sustainability Improvements

Research performance has also advanced markedly. AUS improved by 74 places globally in citation impact and ranks third in the UAE for research influence.

Its six research centres, 22 research groups and 11 endowed chairs and professorships drive innovation in fields such as sustainability, manufacturing, healthcare, artificial intelligence, data science and cultural heritage.

In sustainability, the university rose 44 places globally and holds third position in the UAE. This commitment prepares students to tackle important global and regional challenges.

International Campus Enhances Student Experience

AUS stands out for its diverse community, ranking among the top five universities in the UAE for international faculty and students. With representation from more than 103 nationalities, the campus fosters valuable cross-cultural skills and global perspectives.

What This Ranking Means for Families and Educators

Dr. Tod Laursen, Chancellor of AUS said,

“This result reflects AUS’ continued progress and commitment to academic excellence. Rising to its highest-ever position in the QS World University Rankings reinforces the strength of our academic model and the impact of long-term investment in our students, faculty and research ecosystem.”

He added that what stands out this year is the strength of performance across areas that define institutional impact such as graduate employability, research influence, sustainability and internationalization. These outcomes reflect AUS’ mission to prepare globally competitive graduates and to produce research that addresses real-world challenges and supports sustainable development.

This steady rise demonstrates the value of sustained investment in teaching, research and student support. For school leaders and parents guiding university choices, AUS provides strong graduate outcomes, industry connections and a focus on real-world skills.
