by Belinda Breeze

The new Global Notes series of concerts by Dubai Opera, Encore Performing Arts and the Royal Grammar School Guildford Dubai proudly presents the superb young pianist Anna Fedorova and distinguished cellist and double bassist, Nicholas Santangelo Schwartz.

Anna and Nicholas will be performing a beautiful programme of musical discoveries originally written for other instruments, including Schumann’s Carnivale followed by his Fantasiestucke and compositions by Ginastera and Debussy. The brilliant young Ukrainian virtuoso Anna Fedorova showed an innate musical maturity and amazing technical abilities at a very young age. Her live recording of Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Piano Concerto has over 37 million views on YouTube and is highly acclaimed by critics and world-renowned musicians. She regularly performs at the world’s most prestigious concert halls.

Nicholas Santangelo Schwartz is one of the only active cellists / double bassists in the world who plays on an artistic level on both instruments. He’s appeared on cello at the International Chamber music festival, Ede, and on Radio and TV broadcasts in the Netherlands. As a double bassist, Nicholas has long distinguished himself as one of the best of his generation. He is a laureate of multiple international competitions.

Amira Fouad, Artistic Director and Curator of Encore and ‘Global Notes’ at Dubai Opera: “We are absolutely thrilled that Anna Fedorova will be returning to Dubai Opera’s Studio after her last sold-out concert in 2019.  She will be performing solo and with her talented duo partner Nicholas Schwartz, cellist and double bassist. Our Global Notes audience will have a night to remember.”

Nicholas plays a cello by Amati Mangenot (1930, Bordeaux) and a double bass by Gaetano Antoniazzi (1872, Milan). He is a sponsored artist of Pirastro strings.
