The International Baccalaureate (IB), a global leader in international education, the Sharjah Education Academy (SEA), an institution for higher education, and the Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA), a local regulatory authority of the Government of Sharjah are excited to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that establishes a framework of cooperation between IB, SEA, and SPEA.

The signing took place during the First Compliance Conference, ‘Ma’aman’, on 16 February, and was witnessed by His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah. The Director General of the IB, Mr Olli-Pekka Heinonen, signed the MoU with the President and Chairperson of the board of Trustees – Her Excellency Dr Muhadditha Al Hashimi of SEA, and the Director of SPEA, Hi Excellency Ali Al Hosani.

This MoU aims to expand access to IB programmes through mutual exploration of potential opportunities

“At Sharjah Education Academy, we are steadfast in our belief that elevating the capabilities and skills of our educators is pivotal to attaining academic excellence. Our collaboration with the International Baccalaureate (IB) symbolises a joint endeavour to bolster the expertise of our teachers through innovative and diverse academic programmes and educational initiatives. These programmes will play a vital role in enriching their professional practice,” said Her Excellency Dr Muhadditha Al Hashimi.

This MoU aims to expand access to IB programmes through mutual exploration of potential opportunities in shared interests and projects, with an emphasis on Arabic language learning, professional development opportunities and other areas of collaboration to increase students, leadership and teaching capacity in the region.

“The collaboration with SEA and SPEA paves the way for many joint initiatives”

“An IB education aims at the holistic development of students to become the thinkers and engineers of the future, ready to build a better, more peaceful world. The collaboration with SEA and SPEA paves the way for many joint initiatives, and we look forward to deepening this cooperation to support the learning community and expand access to IB programmes,” said Olli-Pekka Heinonen.

SEA is an educational institution in Sharjah that confers graduate diploma programmes and courses for educators and the teaching community in Sharjah and the UAE.

SPEA is a regulatory government authority in Sharjah that regulates and enhances the private education system in the emirate. Its work spans from early childhood to adult education.

The IB aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who helped to create a better world through intercultural understanding and respect. All four IB programmes encourage students to become compassionate and lifelong learners, who recognise their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet.
