It’s almost time to go back–to–school, and yes, to clean the cupboards too! We know what you are thinking, ‘Old school books, eh!’ Well, keeping its promise to the children, Bookends, the homegrown bookstore meet marketplace of pre-loved books, is back with its second event for Summer 2023.
This time they’ve decided to combine their love for books with their passion for giving children a chance to shine, grow, and more, boys and girls, here’s your chance to be an entrepreneur for a day and take part in the free-to-attend, free to participate event, be an entrepreneur for a day: Swap or sell used and old school textbooks on Saturday, August 26, 2023, 11 am – 1 pm, at the Bookends Store, Dubai Digital Park, Silicon Oasis, Dubai. What’s more? The book sales money is your pocket money, and yes, each seller/entrepreneur will receive a certificate of participation from Bookends, signed by Dubai-based author Purva Grover, who is also the Brand Ambassador for the bookstore, Bookends.
So, do you too often wonder what to do with used and old school textbooks? At Bookends’ upcoming event, you, the children, have a chance to sell or swap these books. The event is free-to-attend and even free to participate.
After three successful years as an online store, Bookends officially opened its first physical location in Dubai Silicon Oasis in July 2023.
Wondering how it works?
- It’s a book sale for your used school textbooks ONLY.
- Children can price the books between Dh1 and Dh15/each (using a pencil, scribble the price on the first page of the book)
- Books sale money = Children’s pocket money (to buy more books, maybe)
- Each child entrepreneur will receive a certificate of participation from Bookends, signed by Dubai-based author Purva Grover, who is also the Brand Ambassador for the bookstore, Bookends
- We encourage buyers & sellers to carry cash for transactions
So, if you want to be an entrepreneur/seller for a day then pre-register by sending a mail to [email protected], and yes reach the bookstore between 10 and 10.30 am on Saturday, 26th August, to set up your stall/table and perhaps put up a cool poster to promote your space too. Please note: Each child is to be accompanied by an adult

Dubai-based author Purva Grover joined hands with Bookends as a Brand Ambassador in July 2023 to share her love for books and encourage one and all to take up reading as a habit, hobby, and beyond.
Author Purva Grover, who is also the Brand Ambassador for Bookends, will be hosting the event, alongside Grace and Somia, the heart & soul behind Bookends. Said Purva, “There’s nothing better than the kids working to find a home for their old, used school textbooks. We hope that through the event, the kids get a chance to experience the habit of reading, the subject of Mathematics, the spirit of entrepreneurship, and of course, kindness in a fun way.” Added Grace and Somia, “As a bookstore, our purpose is to find homes for used books and this time, we’re happy to have children join our initiative! We can’t wait to open our doors to them!”
