Ambassador International Academy has unveiled its newest innovation in future-ready education with the launch of the Sky Lab. The space was inaugurated by Dr Don Thomas, the four-time NASA astronaut whose career includes more than one thousand hours in space. His visit marked an exciting new chapter in the school’s mission to nurture the next generation of pilots, scientists, engineers and global innovators.
Dr Don Thomas:
“The Sky Lab is exactly the kind of initiative that inspires young minds to dream big.”
During his visit, Dr Thomas delivered lively briefings and discussions for students across several grades. Learners explored university pathways, degree choices and fresh opportunities emerging in the global space sector. His insights gave students a grounded look at the possibilities of a fast-growing industry.
A Learning Space Built for the Future

The Sky Lab adds to AIA’s expanding ecosystem of experiential learning environments that already includes the Robotics and AI Lab, Product Design Studio, Graphic Design and Multimedia Lab and Rapid Prototyping Lab. Each space reflects the school’s belief that strong academic foundations paired with hands-on experience prepare students for a world shaped by rapid technological change.
AIA’s new Sky Lab curriculum brings together drone design and flying, rocket and cube satellite development, and Metaverse exploration through VR and XR. Every element has been designed to deepen curiosity and build confidence in high-growth STEM fields.
The Sky Lab bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-world application through immersive aviation and space-based activities
Bringing Aviation Training Into the Classroom
At the heart of the lab is the STEMPILOT Edustation Simulator. This interactive tool turns a classroom into a cockpit where students can apply STEM concepts in real time. Through flight simulation, instrument flying, cross-country navigation, meteorology and air traffic control scenarios, learners gain a deeper understanding of STEM principles aligned with NGSS standards. This approach helps students build practical skills in problem solving, communication and teamwork while nurturing a lifelong interest in science and engineering.
James Lynch, Principal:
“By integrating aviation, space science and emerging technologies into our curriculum, we are equipping students with the skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.”
Supporting the National Education Vision

Iain Colledge, Managing Director of Bridge Education, highlighted how AIA’s innovation journey aligns with the UAE’s national goals.
Iain Colledge:
“Guided by the Education 33 agenda, we at AIA have made strategic investments in future-proofing our learning environments.”
He added that the Sky Lab is an example of the school’s commitment to inquiry-driven, globally minded and future-focused education. As one of Dubai’s leading IB schools, AIA continues to support students in gaining access to top universities worldwide through strong academic and experiential foundations.
Inspiring the Next Generation
Dr Thomas shared words of encouragement with learners during the inauguration.
Dr Don Thomas:
“Study hard, follow your passions, never give up and always keep your eyes on the stars.”
With a PhD in Materials Science and a career spanning NASA’s Johnson Space Center and the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center, Dr Thomas’ visit served as a powerful reminder of what dedication and curiosity can achieve.
AIA’s Continued Journey of Innovation
Ambassador International Academy remains committed to delivering inclusive, innovative and globally relevant education. The Sky Lab stands as the school’s newest milestone, offering students the opportunity to explore emerging technologies and prepare for future careers shaped by science, aviation and space.
