Principal Michael Bloy speaks with Jane Elizabeth of Education UAE about what defines Repton Dubai’s approach to education
Repton Dubai has entered an exciting new era. The school has officially opened its newly enhanced campus facilities, including the Repton Performing Arts Centre, the Repton Sports Village, and a reimagined Early Years Centre. These additions elevate daily life on campus, creating spaces that nurture creativity, confidence and wellbeing alongside academic achievement.
The Repton Performing Arts Centre, with its 600-seat auditorium, professional studios and rehearsal spaces, is already inspiring expressive confidence among students. The Repton Sports Village encourages resilience, teamwork and character across expansive playing fields, tracks and multi-sport courts. Meanwhile, the transformed Early Years Centre places imagination and emotional security at the heart of childhood learning.
But beyond the architecture lies the ethos that makes Repton unique.
To explore this deeper philosophy of education, Jane Elizabeth, Wellness Officer at Quantum Media, sat down with Principal Michael Bloy to discuss relationships, character, and what it means to develop young people who are not only high-achieving but deeply grounded and confident.

Jane: Repton has maintained outstanding outcomes for many years. What has supported the school in continuing on that path?
Michael: Relationships. When staff know the children and understand who they are, students feel secure. That emotional grounding enables growth. Once a child feels safe and confident, academic progress and personal development follow naturally.
“When children feel known and understood, excellence becomes possible.”
Jane: Maintaining that level can be more challenging than achieving it initially.
Michael: It is about the everyday interactions. The routines, the tone, the environment. You saw the students today. They stood on stage with confidence. That confidence is the result of a culture that encourages trust, expression, and the willingness to take risks.
Jane: Repton is known for its holistic approach. How does this come to life in practice?
Michael: We value academic achievement, but we also value character. A broad curriculum allows students to explore their interests, understand themselves, and define what success means to them. When students find an area where they feel they can succeed, school becomes a place of belonging.
A broad curriculum nurtures curiosity, identity and joy in learning.
Jane: How do you embed wellbeing in daily school life?
Michael: We have developed mentoring-focused tutor time, where students talk about personal growth, confidence and identity. We also highlight positive role models among students. When young people learn from each other, healthy habits become part of the culture.
Jane: Repton has a strong and diverse community. How would you describe it?
Michael: We represent more than ninety nationalities. That diversity encourages openness and respect. Parents, students and alumni are actively involved. It is a community that welcomes, supports and celebrates each other.
Jane: Repton has British heritage but clearly feels international in identity.
Michael: Our foundation is British, but our pathways reflect the community we serve. We offer different subject and language routes to support different goals. The heritage gives depth. The international setting gives breadth.
