More than 202,000 students around the world received their International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) and Career-related Programme (CP) results from the May 2025 examination session, marking a 4.8% increase from last year.
This global cohort joins a lifelong learning community of over 2.7 million IB graduates across 157 countries, each equipped with the knowledge and mindset to shape a better world.
I’m inspired by the dedication, resilience, and compassion shown by IB students during such a complex time in the world. As IB graduates move forward—into higher education, careers, or service to their communities—they carry with them the competencies, values, and global mindset needed to thrive and make a meaningful difference. IB graduates leave not only with knowledge, but also with the perspective and purpose to lead, serve, and shape a better world. We are proud of who they are and the impact they’re already making.
said Olli-Pekka Heinonen, Director General of the International Baccalaureate.
Global Performance and Pathways
The Diploma Programme (DP) offers students a globally respected, transformative education that prepares them for university and beyond. Its balanced, inquiry-based curriculum fosters academic achievement, critical thinking, language development, and personal growth.
The global average DP score for the May 2025 session stands at 30.58 points. This milestone reflects the depth and breadth of learning within the two-year IB journey, which fosters academic excellence, personal growth, and intercultural understanding.
In the Africa, Europe, and Middle East (AEM) region alone, over 1,360 IB World Schools offer the Diploma Programme. The DP’s inquiry-based, balanced curriculum is widely respected for its ability to prepare students for university and beyond — while also aligning with national education systems.
Recent curriculum alignment studies confirm the DP meets or exceeds academic standards in key countries including the UK, US, Canada, Singapore, France, Spain, Finland, and Brazil. These findings affirm the programme’s adaptability and international credibility.
In the UK, a study on higher education outcomes (2021) showed that DP students are:
- Three times more likely to enrol in a top 20 university
- 40% more likely to graduate with a first- or upper second-class honours
- 38% more likely to pursue postgraduate study
Growth of the Career-related Programme (CP)
The IB Career-related Programme (CP) continues to expand across the AEM region, now offered in over 115 schools across 35 countries. Aimed at students aged 16 to 19, the CP blends academic subjects with hands-on, career-focused learning — helping students build confidence, responsibility, and a clear sense of purpose.
This year, DP and CP students completed all required assessments, including coursework and examinations, with final grades awarded using all components.
An interim statistical bulletin on the May 2025 session will be released in the coming weeks.
