Schools, nurseries and universities across the UAE resumed in-person learning from Monday, May 11, 2026, after a temporary period of remote education introduced as a precautionary measure amid heightened regional security concerns.
The UAE’s Ministry of Education confirmed on Sunday that students would return to campuses following a reassessment carried out in coordination with relevant authorities.
The Ministry stated that,
“The approved learning model for the upcoming period, whether in-person or remote, will be announced on the evening of 10 May 2026, following an assessment of the current situation in coordination with the relevant authorities, in a manner that ensures the safety of the educational community and the continuity of the educational process.”
KHDA and Sharjah Authorities Confirm Campus Return
Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority confirmed that all educational institutions in the emirate would resume on-site learning from Monday, May 11, 2026.
The authority said the move would continue under comprehensive safety protocols and measures to maintain a safe and supportive environment for students.
The Sharjah Private Education Authority also confirmed the return of in-person learning for all students in private schools and nurseries across the emirate.
UAE Universities Also Resume Classroom Learning
The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced that public and private higher education institutions across the UAE would also return to in-person learning.
The decision applies to students as well as academic and administrative staff from Monday, May 11, 2026.
Exams and International Assessments to Continue In Person
The Ministry of Education confirmed that examinations and international assessments will continue on campus according to approved schedules despite the earlier shift to remote learning. It stated:
“The ministry affirms that examinations and international assessments will proceed in-person in accordance with the approved plans. The Ministry also affirms the readiness of educational institutions to transition between different learning models when needed. Any further updates or developments will be announced through the official communication channels.”
Temporary Remote Learning Measures
Remote learning had been implemented nationwide from Tuesday, May 5, to Friday, May 8, 2026.
The precautionary measure applied to nurseries, public and private schools, students, teachers and administrative staff across the UAE.
Officials said the decision was taken to safeguard the wellbeing of the education community while monitoring regional developments.
Dubai’s KHDA had also directed private schools in the emirate to switch to distance learning during the same period.
The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority included remote learning activation as part of wider public safety measures.
Regional Security Situation Remains Under Watch
The latest education update comes after the UAE Ministry of Defence confirmed that air defences engaged two drones on Sunday, May 10, 2026.
Authorities stated that no injuries or deaths were reported.
Education authorities across the country continue to stress the importance of flexible learning systems that allow institutions to switch between in-person and remote education whenever necessary.
Flexible Learning Systems Remain a Priority
Students across the UAE had previously returned to classrooms on Monday, April 20, after nearly seven weeks of distance learning introduced due to regional security concerns linked to the US-Israel-Iran conflict.
During that period, schools and universities operated under heightened readiness measures, including staggered campus returns, safety inspections and operational reviews.
Officials continue to emphasise that educational continuity and student safety remain the top priorities as the situation evolves.
