NYUAD Presents World Premiere of Piano Sonatas

by Eddie Rayner

The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) in partnership with the NYUAD Music Programme, presents American composer, pianist, and Assistant Arts Professor of Music Matthew Quayle in a world premiere of original piano sonatas. The evening of contemporary piano music will premier online on Monday 25 October 2021 at 7:30pm live from the Red Theatre.

In this recital, Matthew Quayle presents his complete series of original piano sonatas. Written over a span of 25 years, these powerful works explore a wide range of styles and emotions. After the brooding grief of the first sonata, the protest and violence of the second, and the bluesy ebullience of the third, Quayle will perform the world premiere of his meditative Sonata No. 4.

Quayle has taught music as Associate Arts Professor at NYU Abu Dhabi since 2012 and served as Programme Head of Music from 2017 to 2020.
