Celebrating 10 years of junior fashion in the UAE
With cool vibes, street style, sport and neo-vintage, the IKKS Junior SS20 collection is setting up base in California. At the heart of the City of Angels, the “Kids Next Door” fully intend to show off their personalities with a collection full of freedom. From Los Angeles to San Francisco through Venice Beach and Californian deserts, the IKKS Junior spring/summer collection alternates between easy living and colourful vintage. A season all about “mix-not-match”, where kids sport contrasts with style.
For the girls, the season kicks off with The Painted Ladies in a San Francisco-style cargo vibe, think new school outfits with vintage touches and chic details. Blues take on the colour of summer skies and are brightened up with hints of champagne and the contrasting ever-present reds and whites. For boys, Spring/Summer gets underway with Californian Skate Vibes, inspired by the 1970s skateboarding scene – a mashup of smart-casual and street style with the leopard taking centre stage as the theme’s symbol.
The summer continues with Venice Beach Rock where black provides the perfect backdrop for this punchy rock wardrobe with its classic and colourful details. This theme’s key piece is the tricolour leather biker jacket, worn with a slogan T-shirt and jazzed up with a peach-coloured ballerina maxi skirt. The season takes the boys on a ride through the streets of Los Angeles in the theme Drive-In L.A. Hypnotised by the flashing neon lights and purring engines, it’s all about slicker styles with greys going from black to smoky grey, hints of redwood and a focal point on pink.
The next stop is the Golden city, San Francisco. The Wild Parrots capsule collection, a light and delicate capsule, inspired by the parrots that fly around the sky of Telegraph Hill, features shades of off-white, camel and metallic champagne. The Urban Tropical capsule for boys is a smart rock occasionwear line, inspired by Golden Gate Park and the Natural History Museum.Natural mastic and off-white tones contrast with touches of camel and its base in a semi-plain grey suit or a chambray shirt with a white collar.
Summer reaches its peak for both with Believe in Earth, the collection’s army signature. Army codes soften at the top of Salvation Mountain to give way to trendy girl power. Powdered pinks, ecrus and indigo make up the colour palette, looking to khaki as the focal point. The season ends on a musical high with the pop rock festival – Monterey Coast, featuring a colorful bohemian wardrobe with 60s indie influence. The boys end the show with Colorful Way of Style, which shows California as a land of contrast. On one side, an art deco feel inspired by the Eastern Columbia Building, with a range of colours from turquoise blue to emerald, peppered with gold graphics. And, on the other, very sporty looks perfect for a last summer’s game of basketball at Venice Beach.
