Driving Under Adverse Conditions

by Eddie Rayner

Extreme conditions can make driving more hazardous, with rain and other weather changes causing traffic accidents due to a variety of factors. With this in mind, the RTA has issued four vital tips for when driving.

  • Make sure your wiper blades and window demisters are working effectively, as this helps you to see the road while driving in rain
  • Use low beam lights
  • Reduce the distractions in your vehicle, such as mobile phones
  • Slow down and maintain double safe distance

Drive cautiously and use the fog light

It is difficult to see and be seen in the fog. Reduce speed, use your fog lights, be attentive and alert to any emergency.

Driving during foggy conditions without turning on the headlights is a traffic violation punishable by AED500 and four black points.
